served mouth
watering breakfast, lunch and dessert combos. Our goal was to offer students a
variety of affordable options. For breakfast, the menu included coffee with a
brownie or coffee and a pancake with assorted toppings. Our famous kickass
lunch combo included a boerewors rolls, fresh popcorn and a drink. Finally for
dessert, we had brownies a la mode (brownies and ice-cream) and pancakes with ice-cream.
Surprisingly, the popcorn was extremely popular and
we found ourselves struggling to keep up with demand. During peak hour, we
almost had a mini crisis when our popcorn machine lost a screw and literally
fell apart. When you have over a dozen customers standing in line waiting for
popcorn, you simply can’t tell them to go home. Not good for business. So we
were forced to get creative and come up with a solution. Fifteen minutes later, we found the solution
in Bianca’s hair. We used one of her hair clips to keep the unit in place. This
incident taught us 3 very important lessons:
1) Necessity is the mother of invention 2) creativity
is the sister of innovation and
3) Every
problem has a solution provided you are willing to look for it.
Entrepreneurship: The Art
of Innovation
Every single member of our group worked extremely
hard. We made a promise to ourselves that we would keep on selling on campus,
until there were no more hungry students left to buy our food. As a result of
this insane determination, we succeeded in selling 97% of our boerewors rolls (that’s
over 39kg of halaal meat). Somewhere
around 9pm, we finally decided to close our store and go home (for those of you
doing the math, that’s 18 hours of standing on our feet and serving customers
all day!). Although we fell short of achieving our financial goal for cake sale
1, we succeeded in being the hardest working group (in our humble opinion) and
the last team standing on the Jammie
Plaza . That’s incredible.
We would also like to give A BIG warm THANK YOU to
all our sponsors and volunteers:
