Hello blog world. It's a beautiful Monday morning
and this is officially my first post. I
am on blog duty this week so you’ll be reading a lot from me. Before, I get
started let me introduce myself. My name is Anim and I make up 1/7th of the
"Genesis group B" team. The purpose of this blog is two-fold: To
REFLECT on the incredible journey as we blossom into entrepreneurs and to share
our unique insights into the LEARNING process along the way.
We have come a long way from those “nerve wracking”
orientation networking sessions when our group was just beginning to form, to
where we are today-post cake sale 1. For those of you who may not be familiar
with cake sale, it’s an annual event here at UCT which takes place on the
historic Jammie plaza. During this event, post graduate diploma in
entrepreneurship (PDE) students set up "mini shops" on campus, where
they sell a variety of foods to students. All profits from cake sale 1 will be
used as start-up capital for the business we shall be running this year.
Cake Sale
1 was our first group activity and there was a ton of planning/project
management that went into preparing for the event. We had to: look for
corporate sponsors, open a business bank account, come up with a marketing
strategy, go for training, organize store layout, buy inventory and make the
products ourselves. The week before cake sale, I felt like there were a
million things that needed to be done and not enough hours in the day to do
them all. We had a total of seven meetings to talk about our progress and
discuss cake sale strategy. The meetings (especially the informal
ones held at a group member's house) were quite helpful as we learned the
importance of splitting up big tasks into smaller ones to avoid getting
overwhelmed.
