Hello there,
My name is Craig and this week I will be on blog-shift.
We are currently on a ‘short vac’ from varsity. It’s quite
different from most other varsity vacs I’ve had in the past in that there is
definitely more mandatory bed-time reading. I guess the adventures of Winnie
the Pooh will have to stay in the draw for now.
We have been assigned a project for this vac called the
Micro Enterprise project. It involves interviewing the owners of a small
business and applying some of our readings on business theory to evaluate the
enterprise. Over the weekend I went to the Saturday morning Biscuit Mill market and met an old couple conducting an interesting venture. They had setup their stall and were selling rare cooking ingredients. They were called MainIngredient and can be found online at www.mainingredient.biz.
I was inspired by their tech-saviness as they had taught themselves how to make use of certain online facilities, such as Google Adwords and Twitter, to market, save and grow their business. Today we went to their home in Sea Point to interview them and found out more about their story. Needless to say it was a great experience and we learnt a lot from their tale.
